No pictures with this post, just a few thoughts about my photography hobby/business and to share with you that I LOVE IT!! First piece of exciting news…I upgraded my camera & bought a new fancier one! (Ok Melissa, I know I know I didn’t “need” it, but I just love it, and I’m trying to keep up with you since you are such an awesome photographer!) I’m assuming (hoping) my pictures are even nicer now!
Next, I had my first out of town photo session yesterday. I traveled 3 hours to the beach at Grand Haven on Lake Michigan. I haven’t been there since I was a kid! I took engagement pictures for a couple, as well as some family pictures with their 3 little girls. Then, I grabbed my cousin Victoria along the way and she assisted me during the session & then we did her senior pictures after it. Every bone in my body ached, especially my photography hand! (Pictures to follow later after several hours of editing work.)
The beach proved to be the most challenging photo session ever for me because it was the harshest, brightest sun ever and it glared off the white sand & the water. But I couldn’t move the sun, or the beach, or the lake, or the beautiful pier & lighthouses….so I had to deal with it! Luckily I recently figured out how to use my new fancy flash because despite the sun I had to use the flash to prevent the shadows on their faces on many of the pictures.
Another exciting piece of news, I landed my first wedding! (Carol thinks I’m a little crazy as she is having flash backs of her years of photographing weddings & the enormous amount of stress that goes along with them!) The wedding is in Nov of 2009 and it’s a large wedding!
And my last photography news is that my business has really boomed lately. I’ve bid on 4 weddings recently and just this weekend I received 4 inquires from my website and it looks like I’m landing all of those jobs as well.
Oh wait, I thought of one more thing. It also looks like I’m landing a job with Dave’s company to photograph 20 credit unions across the state. I’ll then make large blown up mounted prints to line the halls of their new building.
So, in summary, I’m having a riot with my hobby, now turned business, and life is good!
