Showing Off His Stuff

This little guy showed off a couple of milestones for me during his little photo session.  He was sitting up!  He was crawling!  And you can see his 2 bottom teeth!  What do you do when Michigan’s Mother Nature throws you a 60 degree, rainy day after about a week straight of 90 degree days?  Well, you take pictures inside instead.  So, stay tuned for part 2 of Nick’s session to be done outside next!

I really like the first picture.  So simple.  No props.  No clothes.  Just his pure cuteness smiling at you!

Michigan Challenge Balloonfest

So apparently the Balloonfest in Howell, Michigan has been going on for 25 years now. But, this was the first time I ever went to it. Let’s just say that I’m sure it won’t be the last. In fact, I think it will be a great tradition to bring my little boys to it each year. They really enjoyed it! It’s a huge 3 day event drawing tons of people from all around. There are several hot air balloon launches, a carnival, craft fair, renaissance festival and more. Of course I brought my camera. I’m a sucker for any event where I can get some cool photo opportunities.

When it got dark the balloons all returned for their “glow” event. They all lit up so brightly for us. It was really unique. Then sky divers jumped out an airplane with glow sticks attached to their bodies and that was really neat to see them parachute down to the ground lit up in the dark.

Want to Learn How to Use Your SLR Camera?

Tonight I taught a photography class at the Howell Library for their summer community education program. I was very honored to have been asked! I had approximately 23 people attend. I really enjoyed teaching this class and I think it went very well given all the comments afterwards. I’ve only been home for 2 hours and I’ve already received a few emails from people that attended the class also. What a nice surprise!

The class was about basic photography. We covered topics from general principles to create better photographs to the complex subjects of aperture, shutter speed, exposure, lighting and ISO.

I was approached by several people after class who asked me if I would consider teaching them how to use their SLR cameras. I’ve thought of this as another side part of my business, but had never been approached by so many people that wanted to pay for this experience.

So, I will now offer individualized on-location lessons for those that would like to learn how to use their SLR cameras. Get your camera off Program or Automatic mode and learn how to use it! Heck, you made the investment when you purchased it, now you can learn to utilize it and get better end results in your photographs. It will be cheaper and quicker than taking an actual classroom course and it will be completely personalized one-on-one in a natural setting so you can practice while you learn.

If you are interested, contact me at email@rememberwhenphotographybykristi.com. I will customize your experience depending on how many times you’d like to meet. We can meet for one 1.5 hour session, or more sessions as desired, depending on how much you want to learn.

I couldn’t help but snap this picture as I walked through the hall at the library. It made me smile. :)

Such a Fun Family!

Yes, this session was fun! The “F” family were naturals behind the camera. Many families are uncomfortable being natural when they know a camera is around, but these guys sort of ignored me and played! Exactly what I told them to do when we met. Therefore, the results of their pictures just make me happy when I look at them. So full of life. You sure can’t get images like this at a portrait studio in your 15 minute time slot in front of a white back drop. Sorry, I couldn’t resist that! That is why people hire on-location photographers….to capture true life and true personality in a natural setting! And I love that you can tell that from their pictures.

Little Elijah became my friend quickly and even chose to hold MY hand over mommy & daddy’s about half way through the session. What a sweetheart! Put him and Mom & Dad together and you get a cute little ad for a magazine or something for the cutest family award. You guys were awesome! Angela, thanks so much for contacting me, it was great getting to know you!

Dare I mention this? Ok, I will. So I lost my brand new 35mm lens somewhere during the session. I spent 1.5 hours looking for it and then found out this family went at 9pm, with their toddler and looked around for it also. Thanks guys! No luck. Big sigh, and a little tear.

Ok, here are some of their gorgeous pics. So many to choose from this time too!

Picture Overload of My Kiddos

My twin boys, Brady & Tyler, are used to seeing my camera in their face. They are now getting the concept of doing something silly or smiling for me when I have my camera.  I guess my candy bribes rewards help too.

So every 6 months (once at their birthday and once at their half birthday) I take “official” pictures of them.  The kind where I actually care about what they are wearing, I put a little goop in their hair and I actually print some of them to replace the pictures around the house and at the grandparents houses, etc.

So, here they are, my cutie patuties at 2.5 years old.  Tyler has blonde hair and Brady has brown hair.
