Welcome to My {Life}

Thanks for stopping by! I hope you enjoy the ramblings (and pictures) that make up my wonderful everyday life.

Random Iphone Pics

Iphone (or any camera phone) pictures have to be some of the most interesting pictures. They make me laugh. They are usually spontaneous events that you think you want to capture and yet you rarely do anything with them. So I thought I’d dump some on here.

I literally walked up the stairs from exercising and instantly saw this occurring. I had my phone in my hand because I have a running app I use, so I snapped a picture of the dog on the home-made leash. And then I made them take it off Tyler’s neck (for safety of course).

And to help ward off the desire to be a dog, we brought the boys to the puppy store to let them play with the puppies. And no, we had no discussions of ever getting one.

I have my usual insane motivation for healthy eating & exercise again this winter. It hits me every year. This is a funny picture I took to send my Aunt Kate (aka, my accountability partner in exercise/diet….and by the way she leaves for Aruba in the morning wearing a new clothing size since she hit her goal) to prove that I was going to exercise on a particular day I felt like bailing.

I’m hoping to comfortably wear my new jeans some day soon. Love the bling.

But I won’t fit into the jeans if Cindy keeps sending me these (best cookies ever…!!)

….or if we continue to stop at places like these!

In January we got dressed up in our black tie duds and I found my next car at the Auto Show. Ok, it’s not really practical at this point of my life, but it’s still cool.

I recently inherited a slide projector from Mom. And it works. I know because I also inherited 10 reels of approx 100 slides each (that’s roughly 1,000 slides) and I looked at every single one of them on the wall. I was glued to them. Slides starting at my 1st birthday and going for about 7 years after. My goal is to scan them so we have them electronically. I found pics like these of my family….me, Kari, my mom and dad.

In big news. I mean really big. My Mom joined Facebook on Monday. Her work sent a link to employees saying they could follow the link to see it on Facebook. Which prompted her to sign up. Funny thing is, 5 days later and I am still her only friend. This is priceless.

And finally…..a picture of a typical winter evening here in our house. Dave caught this picture on his Ipad without us knowing. We are warm and cozy together.

Visit with the Family

Dave was out of town for a few days so the boys and I went to visit my family. I’ve said this many times over the past year….”we aren’t going to be able to pick up and leave for a few days during the week for much longer”. And we all know why. SCHOOL next year. Real school. Kindergarten. And I’ll write a whole post about that soon since my brain is consumed and paralyzed with some decisions about that too.

Anyway, we spent an evening with Mom, Mark & Grandma Terpstra. Then a morning with Uncle John (and ended up with an entire car full of drum set equipment….stay tuned for more about that). Then for the afternoon the boys & I went and played (since everyone else was either in school or at work). And then ended the trip by spending the evening watching one of Brett’s games.

I don’t have much in the way of pictures, but do want to highlight two people. First up, is Grandma T and her introduction to photo booth. We had quite a few chuckles.

And secondly, is Brett at his game. He’s #12, purple uniform and is a Junior on the HS Varsity basketball team.

First Snowman of 2012

Wow, 2 posts in a row about playing outside in the snow. I guess that’s January in Michigan for you. We finally had a decent amount of snow and the right kind of snow to make a snowman. And Dave didn’t wait for the snow to stop, he took the boys out in the midst of a blizzard. Well, not really a blizzard. But the kind of snow that blows sideways and pelts you in the face and feels like a blizzard. You can see Brady defeated the blizzard with his umbrella at one point.

You’d think they would end up by the fireplace with sweatpants and a sweatshirt on sipping hot cocoa, but instead I found them in their underwear on the cold kitchen floor sipping a can of pop (which was a total treat for them because they rarely ever get to drink pop).

Sledding Fun in the Snow

We haven’t had much snow at all this year, so when we got a few inches over the weekend Dave was excited to make a snowman with the boys. But after a failed attempt at a snowman and a snow fort (the snow was just powder and wouldn’t pack) he decided we should try sledding down the hills on the golf course in the backyard. We had never tried that before (last year we sledded down the hill in our front yard). Well, it was a success and we had a great time. It reminded us that making memories with our kids, such as these, are the things they will remember when they grow up.

Below….Dave carrying both of them up the hill after an exhausting hour of sledding.

Grocery Shopping

I took this picture last month and found it today. Brady is now doing all of the checking out at the grocery store for me at the self checkout line. He stands in the shopping cart so he can reach the grocery items and the checkout stand. He scans everything in the cart except for the produce which has to be weighed and the products codes needs to be entered. Tyler is positioned half way down where he helps guide the items to the end and he stacks them. And I am at the end bagging up the groceries.

It’s become our new routine at the store and it’s kind of fun to have the help!
