Our Visit with Janessa

Janessa came to visit us this weekend and we had a great time with her here! The boys just loved having her here too. Dave & Janessa spent some time learning some new songs & recording them together (hopefully I’ll be able to post one of the songs). Janessa also volunteered to be my first model in my first photo shoot. I still have more lighting techniques to learn, but was thrilled how these turned out. My studio is all set up and I’m having a lot of fun with it. Here’s 15 of my favorite pictures. Doesn’t Janessa look pretty? Also, Dave & her look a lot alike, don’t they? I love the father/daughter ones of them too. Janessa is at the airport now getting ready to head home. We miss her already!!

Tyler in Training

Tyler seems to be good at sports and he loves balls! He started throwing balls quite awhile ago and he’s got a throw that you have to watch out for now. Anyway, we decided to put him in training early, hoping for a college scholarship someday for sports. He does 5 minutes on the treadmill each day. ha ha. Just kidding. He actually watches us on the treadmill and wants to do it too.

New Drivers on the Road

We are SO ready for warm weather! I’ve almost made it through my first cold weather season with the task of entertaining two toddlers for about 12 hours per day, indoors. Sometimes I run out of things to do with them….like today…..so my brilliant mind decided to let them play in the car. Believe me, this seemed like the thrill of a lifetime for them. By the end of the 1/2 hour in the car they had figured out every button in the car, including turning on the CD very loudly of Daddy singing. They even managed to lock my keys in the car. Now, if I tell you that I had to call AAA to get into my car that would make for a great ending to my story. But, alas, I had a spare car key in the house.

Update for the Week

I haven’t posted all week, so here’s an update on a few random things. As you know, photography has become a new hobby of mine. My private teacher (sounds fancy, huh?), Carol Loomis, helped me this week decide on a complete studio package that I purchased yesterday. I bought a set with 22 pieces, everything you can imagine from lighting to backdrops to set up my own photography studio in my house!! We’re going to convert the front room/den into my studio. Maybe someday soon I’ll start to advertise and maybe turn it into a little business, but for now, as I’m learning, it’s a fun hobby for me. And I have 2 of the cutest subjects to practice on!

Also, this week I started a photography class with my friend Christina. The teacher is a well-known photographer and it was exciting to learn from him. I’ve already learned many of things from Carol, but it’s still fun and informative (and time away for ME!!!!)

The boys were healthy for one week and then Brady got sick again this week. He had fevers between 102-104 for the past 3 days. The doctor thought he may have strep because his throat was so red, but the tests turned out negative. Just a virus of some kind.

Dave left today for Las Vegas for 6 days. It’s a business trip, but of course he’ll be able to visit Aubrey, Lance & the grandkids while he’s there. Janessa is also visiting this weekend so they will spend time together as well. My mom is in Florida with Aunt Judi still (yes, they are doing their annual tanning & shopping sprees as sisters and I’m missing out this year!!). So that means no visit to GR for me….instead it’s 6 days alone for me & the boys. If this nice weather continues we’ll get to play outside some more. The boys love that.

Dave’s Big 50th Birthday!!

It was Dave’s big 50th birthday yesterday! America (our great babysitter) watched the boys while we drove off for a normal dinner & movie evening. Except, when we got to the movie theatre I told Dave we weren’t doing the usual. Instead, I had bags packed in the trunk and I had a room at the brand new MGM Grand hotel downtown Detroit and we set off for 20 hours of fun!
We started by having dinner at the Melting Pot. It’s a fondue restaurant and was very good and unique. The hotel room at the MGM was one of the nicest we’ve ever stayed in. To give you an idea, there was a TV built inside the mirror in the bathroom! And the shower was the size of a walk in closet and had a couple different shower heads spraying water in all directions.
Now to show that Dave’s big 50 brought us some luck, we sat down at a 3 card poker table and Dave hit the straight flush in his FIRST hand! That won him $700! Then, on our 5th hand, I hit the straight flush and won another $700! Unbelievable! And NO, we did not give the money back to the casino! We ended the night by running over to Greektown to splurge at Estoria backery where they have the BEST desserts ever.

It was a very fun evening for us! And America said the boys did great all night. So, America, we want to plan our next overnighter!! ha ha

At this moment Dave is napping. Did the evening tire him out? Or is it because he’s 50 and his age is tiring him out already! Just kidding!

I love you, Honey!!! Happy Birthday!
