Playing with the Hose: Priceless

Forget the expensive toys or the big swimming pool, give the kids a garden hose and they will have fun for hours. Well, fun until Tyler manages to catch Brady and soak him with the freezing cold water….or soak himself accidentally while trying to catch Brady (see last picture).

Jenn’s Fun Visit

Aaron’s girlfriend, Jenn, came to visit this past weekend…Thursday to Monday. She attends BYU and her family lives in PA. I have to say she’s the sweetest girl ever. She shares my love of photography so we spent lots of time on that together. She also plays the piano & had a lot of fun playing songs with Dave as he played the guitar. We went to church together, went boating, went to the park, had ice cream and they cooked us a great Mexican dinner one night. Aaron showed her the sights of Brighton & downtown Detroit and also took her up to Mackinaw for a day. The good news….she’s coming back in a few weeks!!

Here are some pictures from her visit:

Farm Visit at Kensington

We had no plans today, so I packed a picnic lunch & took the boys to the petting farm at Kensington Metro Park. That park is huge! Anyway, the boys loved it and attempted to make the noises that the pigs, horses, cows and sheep were making. They even did the sign for “potty” when a horse went pee. Well, it was a male horse…”it” was huge and was hard to miss, even for a 1 1/2 yr old! I decided to ditch the stroller and let them walk on their own so they had a riot. Here are a few pictures (ok, a little more than a few).
The picture above is before I gave them candy to pose for the camera. The picture below is after the candy. A little more well behaved with a good bribe!

Fun Milestones

Ok, so there’s the usual baby/toddler milestones we talk about like first crawl, first steps, first words, potty training, etc. But I was thinking this morning of how many milestones we don’t talk much about but are very big to me. So, here’s a few new milestones that Brady & Tyler have done lately that are exciting to me:

1. Yesterday the boys walked a mall by themselves. No stroller. They just walked.
2. For the past two days the boys have been holding hands as they walk in & out of stores or restaurants (picture above). It’s so stinking cute! We get lots of looks and comments like “oh, that is so sweet”.

3. When I go to a restaurant by myself with them for lunch I started letting them just sit in the booth by themselves. No highchair! I also do this occasionally at home with the less messy meals.
4. I stopped cutting grapes in half and let them eat them whole (this was a scary one). ha ha
5. I can sit back at McDonald’s and chat with other mothers while my boys go play on their own in the play structure. Same with at the park.
6. I let the boys play outside by themselves while I’m doing things in the kitchen. Ok, I check on them frequently and they aren’t too far out of sight…but still!
7. They started drinking out a real cup instead of a sippy cup when eating meals at the table. They generally don’t spill it either!
8. They finally started calling me something. It’s not quite “mama”, but a similar version. They call me “me-me”. Speaking of that, their official first word was “hot”, then “baby”, then “da” (for dad), then “eye” (for hi) and now “me-me” (for mom). Nothing else yet. But they do keep expanding their sign language vocabulary.
9. I stopped using the gate that blocks the stairs going upstairs. They have freedom to go up & down as they choose.
10. I stopped locking them in the bathroom with me while I shower & get ready. They roam about the house on their own while I’m in the shower!!

So those are some things that make me realize they are really growing up!!! Too fast too!!

Fun in the Park

I take the boys down to the Millpond park downtown Brighton quite often. We went there again tonight and got ice cream & played on the large play structure thing.

How cute is this girl? She was playing and I asked her dad if I could take her picture. Also, here’s a couple pics of the boys enjoying their ice cream. I found out that bribing them with ice cream to kiss for the camera works just as well as candy. ha ha
