“Are you serious?”….were my words to the mall Santa on Saturday afternoon. My boys were afraid of him and wouldn’t go to him, so Dave & I walked them up to Santa ourselves. I said to Santa “can you please say “ho, ho, ho” for them because they would love that?”
(Remember my boys don’t say too many words, and this is their first encounter (that they remember) with Santa. So they associate Santa right now with “ho, ho, ho” and “prizes” (for presents).)
Do you know what Santa said to me? He said “no” and further explained that he’s not allowed to say “ho, ho, ho” anymore because it’s politically incorrect because it’s a derogatory term for “working ladies” and it offends them. ”Are you serious?”, I had to reply. He was as upset about it as I was.
He further explained that he’s not allowed to say “Merry Christmas” anymore either. (As a side note, he told me that he’s Jewish and doesn’t have a problem saying it himself.) So, what is there left for him to say? I thought Santa always greeted children by saying “Ho, ho, ho, Merry Christmas”. Come on, just reading that made you flash back to your childhood and you can hear Santa saying that, can’t you? Not anymore.
Bah Hum Bug, is all I have to say about that.
PS, since it’s also politically incorrect to bring your own camera and not buy their $15 4×6 picture, I have no pictures to share. Not to mention the boys basically took their candy cane and ran anyway.
