Two Big Boys (Passie’s & Potty’s)

Yeah, Brady gave up his pacifier!
Yeah, Tyler is potty trained!
Both happened today! Woo-hoo!! They are 3 yrs and 4 months old.

Brady. The boys have had pacifiers for the past year at bedtime only. In November Tyler decided one night that he was a big boy and didn’t want it anymore, and that was that. Brady wouldn’t give it up though.

Tyler. 7 months ago Brady decided one day that he wanted to wear underwear and go on the potty. He did it by himself instantly one day. And hasn’t worn diapers since, not even at night. Tyler has wanted nothing to do with the potty and won’t even try.

So, each was a big boy in their own way. The boys have been eyeing certain “big” toys at the store for a few months. Yesterday we told them they could pick any toy they want and buy it. But, the toy had to stay in the box at home until Brady gave up his pacifier and Tyler started wearing underwear and going in the potty. There sat their toys, on the end table, boys starring at them and drooling over them, all evening while they were with a babysitter.

Sure enough, last night Brady quickly gave up his pacifier so that “the new babies could have it”. So, this morning he got to open the toy he picked out. A big Buzz Lightyear. Night two tonight and he didn’t even give it thought. Just like that, pacifiers are gone.

Potty training for Tyler, probably not as easy, right? Well, surprisingly it went great today and he begged to wear “big boys” and go on the potty. He wanted his toy really bad! He pee’d on the potty several times. In fact, after he woke up he held it for 4 hours, no accidents, before he finally figured out how to “go” and he went in the potty. So he got to open the toy he picked. A big Transformer. By the end of the night Tyler was able to almost pee on demand. I told him to go before getting into the tub like Brady does and he sat down, concentrated hard, and within about 10 seconds he pee’d. I also should mention that we dared to take him out to lunch in underwear today too. No pull ups or training pants. Straight to underwear. UPDATE: End of day 2 and not a single accident! He’s totally got it down!

So yeah, um, I think that officially makes them pretty grown up, right? Well, it’s not like it’s not the normal age for these things to happen. It’s not a miracle or anything. But it does make me feel like my little boys aren’t quite as little anymore. Which always makes a mommy proud, but also a tad sad.

PS….Aren’t Brady’s Buzz Lightyear cowboy boots a hoot? The boys wear them everywhere. Remember they fell in love with Buzz Lightyear in Disney in November? Yeah, well, now we own Toy Story boots, hats, remote control cars, buzz dolls, woody dolls, sleeping bags, toy story game, coloring books, shirts, cups, flashlights, both movies…..who knows what else. Our house is full of Toy Story stuff.

A Special Birthday Wish

Grab something to drink, sit back, relax and enjoy this blog post. It’s dedicated to my Mom because today is her birthday. And because I think she’s special. And I love her very much.

The boys and I set out downstairs to go through several boxes of old photos. So much fun! I wonder if Mom even knows I have so many of her/our old family photos. The boys had fun holding up the pictures to show you and I took pictures of them. Who needs a scanner when you have willing 3 year olds that wanted to join in.

It all started with this wonderful couple, Grandpa & Grandma Zoet. Thanks to them, my mom was born. Oh how I miss them so. I teared up as I described to the boys who they were.

I found these old pics of my Mom as a child. From what I understand she was quite a knock out. Her sister was 8 yrs older than her so she was really the baby of their family. She went to college and was married when she was 20 yrs old. I think she had a little bit of a wild side, but for the most part was a good Christian girl who was loved by many and kind to everyone.

And then came me. Mom did a fantastic job of religiously getting my pictures taken. I have many of them!!!

Mom made it a priority to hold onto many, many keepsakes for me. Tonight I found everything from my progress reports in elementary school to notes from teachers when I was young to all of report cards/grades from high school and college! I plan to do the same for my boys. They are such neat memories to preserve.

Between my mom, my sister and I we have seen many struggles, hard times and good times. No matter what my mom has always been there for me. This picture brings back memories of getting my face painted at Roger’s Department Store (did I have that right, Mom?)

We had many fun vacations as kids. It’s funny because it’s hard to remember all of those things, so having so many pictures is priceless. Whether it was heading up north Michigan or fishing at my grandparents cottage, spending time with your children is also priceless.

My mom provided me with all the cool clothes that I needed as a teen. The big round earrings, the parachute pants, collars standing straight up, short shorts….and she even let me wear my Jordache jeans to school 4 out 5 days each week. Hey, I had an image to upkeep, and she knew it.

Christmas’ were always perfect. At least as a child I remember it that way. Why is it nowadays that the holidays are filled with stress and aren’t as fun? Because I was a child then and unaware? Or because we are forgetting what is important about Christmas nowadays? My mom’s favorite quote: “It doesn’t matter what you give me, but at least give me a dishtowel.” She taught us the importance of giving to others, at holidays as well as in everyday life. She has a VERY giving heart. If you know her, you know that.

Mom paid for me to go to Christian summer camp once, twice or three times a year, even though she knew I’d come back with a new boyfriend each time! She taught me the importance of a relationship with God and has always been a wonderful Christian example to me.

Mom spent countless hours following me across Michigan to watch me march in band parades either playing my flute or being a flag girl. She also sat through countless football games in the cold just to see me march at half time. And she also went to all of my basketball games for what…6 years straight I guess, always cheering me on in the bleachers.

Mom helped me graduate and supported me through my accomplishments. She made it possible for me to reach for my dreams. She has also been there for me when I failed. No, I am not perfect. And she knows that, and loves me unconditionally.

Fast forward to my adult life. Mom supported me in my 20’s when I got married at age 21 after graduating from college, when I moved to Atlanta and lived far away and when I went through my divorce when I turned 30. She knew my struggles to have a baby all of those years and knew that giving me a gift on Mother’s Day, even though I wasn’t a mother, helped me feel that little bit of extra love that I needed. She was there for me in some difficult times and always lent a shoulder to cry on. She shared in my joy as I married Dave and when I got pregnant with Brady & Tyler. Her and Mark were on vacation when I had the boys and they quickly ended their trip and drove all the way to the hospital to meet the boys when they were 14 hours old. I could not ask for a better Grandmother to my boys.

And I’ll end this with some pictures of Mom and I from the past few years. We have made a new habit of taking a vacation together once a year. Just Mom and I. Taking time to be alone, to talk, to have fun, to experience life together and continue making more memories.

I love you MOM!! Happy Birthday!!

More Utah Christmas Fun

I FINALLY made myself sit down and finish my Christmas pics. Me and the computer have not wanted to spend much time together in 2010. Yes, Mr. MAC, I will love you again…..just give me a break for awhile, please.

Here are some more pics from our Christmas in Utah. I love the family I married into.

Utah Christmas

I have lots of snapshots to share, but since I haven’t finished them yet I thought I’d post a few of my favorites from our Christmas with our immediate family in Utah.

First up, Brady & Tyler LOVED playing with Annika, Landon & Luke. They would play for hours with them every time we went to their house. Even on the last night when we went out for dinner I repeatedly heard the kids talking about each other. Brady went to the bathroom and Landon said “where did Brady go”. And Tyler wanted to sit by Annika at dinner. They really, really had fun playing together on this trip!

And, here’s a pic of us girls. From left to right….Me, Jenn (Aaron’s wife), Janessa & Aubrey. I love these ladies!! I wish all of you could have a chance to meet them. They are very special. By the way, a big Happy Birthday to Jenn today too!!! We get to celebrate with her this weekend.

Christmas Eve

Hold onto your hats, ladies and gentleman, because it’s a new year and I have TIME to blog again! It’s the quiet season for photographers, mainly due to mother nature’s winter torment, so I am on a mission to do SOOOO many things this winter! The list is endless. I already started this weekend after returning from Utah. I organized toys, the junk drawer, the book cabinet, and spent 2 hours this afternoon canceling credit cards that I never use….also grocery shopped for healthy foods and bought a new workout DVD….healthy eating and exercise begins tomorrow! I’m going to scrapbook again, do more charitable things and visit family more. I am even thinking about a solo trip with just me and the boys down to Florida in February to visit my grandparents. These things are just a small portion of what I have planned to do this winter season while my business is slower.

Welcome, 2010, I was ready for you!!!

Here are some pics from Christmas Eve at my Mom’s. More Christmas pics to come from our Utah visit also.
