Two Big Boys (Passie’s & Potty’s)

Yeah, Brady gave up his pacifier!
Yeah, Tyler is potty trained!
Both happened today! Woo-hoo!! They are 3 yrs and 4 months old.

Brady. The boys have had pacifiers for the past year at bedtime only. In November Tyler decided one night that he was a big boy and didn’t want it anymore, and that was that. Brady wouldn’t give it up though.

Tyler. 7 months ago Brady decided one day that he wanted to wear underwear and go on the potty. He did it by himself instantly one day. And hasn’t worn diapers since, not even at night. Tyler has wanted nothing to do with the potty and won’t even try.

So, each was a big boy in their own way. The boys have been eyeing certain “big” toys at the store for a few months. Yesterday we told them they could pick any toy they want and buy it. But, the toy had to stay in the box at home until Brady gave up his pacifier and Tyler started wearing underwear and going in the potty. There sat their toys, on the end table, boys starring at them and drooling over them, all evening while they were with a babysitter.

Sure enough, last night Brady quickly gave up his pacifier so that “the new babies could have it”. So, this morning he got to open the toy he picked out. A big Buzz Lightyear. Night two tonight and he didn’t even give it thought. Just like that, pacifiers are gone.

Potty training for Tyler, probably not as easy, right? Well, surprisingly it went great today and he begged to wear “big boys” and go on the potty. He wanted his toy really bad! He pee’d on the potty several times. In fact, after he woke up he held it for 4 hours, no accidents, before he finally figured out how to “go” and he went in the potty. So he got to open the toy he picked. A big Transformer. By the end of the night Tyler was able to almost pee on demand. I told him to go before getting into the tub like Brady does and he sat down, concentrated hard, and within about 10 seconds he pee’d. I also should mention that we dared to take him out to lunch in underwear today too. No pull ups or training pants. Straight to underwear. UPDATE: End of day 2 and not a single accident! He’s totally got it down!

So yeah, um, I think that officially makes them pretty grown up, right? Well, it’s not like it’s not the normal age for these things to happen. It’s not a miracle or anything. But it does make me feel like my little boys aren’t quite as little anymore. Which always makes a mommy proud, but also a tad sad.

PS….Aren’t Brady’s Buzz Lightyear cowboy boots a hoot? The boys wear them everywhere. Remember they fell in love with Buzz Lightyear in Disney in November? Yeah, well, now we own Toy Story boots, hats, remote control cars, buzz dolls, woody dolls, sleeping bags, toy story game, coloring books, shirts, cups, flashlights, both movies…..who knows what else. Our house is full of Toy Story stuff.
